The Solitary Reaper……

Behold her single in the field,
Yon solitary Highland lass!
Reaping and singing by herself;
Stop here or gently pass!

I listened ,motionless and still;
And,as I mounted up the hill,
The music in my heart I bore,
Long after it was heard no more.

Sensitive Words!

R e l a x ……..
Most of us in practically all our activities are driving with our brakes on. That brake is unconscious tension.
A basic cause of tension is putting too much emphasis on the ultimate goal, trying too hard to win. It is good to have a mental picture of our objective but your attention should be concentrated on
the specific job at hand. And when that job is done, remember there will be something else to be done tomorrow. So relax ! Life is not a hundred yards dash but more in the nature of a cross-country run.. And no one can sprint all the time.
......Joseph A Kennedy

Quotes that make you think :

1.Money is a good servant but a bad master. …Dominique Bounours

2.We all have a inbuilt judicial system that conducts its own trial.The act of prosecution starts as soon as something unfavourable happens or when our ego gets hurt….. Deepak Ranade

3.The self alone is real.All others are unreal. ….Raman Maharshi

4.Making a living is essential. However,remember making a life is important too. When the time comes to sum up our lives and all that we have done or achieved,we would find ourselves in deep red even if our
score in the former were high at the cost of the latter. ………..anonymous

It's really very thought provoking compilation, Grandpa, thanks for sharing...

Jamini Roy..

Collecting original art from greats and amateurs alike has been a dream for me ....though an expensive dream :).. I still nurture it ....I was recently browsing through blogs and one of them ( an Indian summer) had a very interesting post about the same, it  talked about an online sale of original Indian art by some very renowned artists. Though the website India Art Collective is selling originalsby many artists, I just couldn't take my eyes off from  one of my favorites of all time, "Shri Jamini Roy". You can read more about him here.

These paintings remind me of my growing up days when I was introduced to the works of some of the  greatest artists , painters , poets and musicians , slowly but steadily by my Dearest GP ( Grand Pa) ...Here's a Dekko (take a look)  for you ...also readers I would definitely be all ears if you tell me ..who is your favorite artist and which of their work you admire most ....wouldn't that be an interesting discussion...

Art Image

The one above is a sure favorite of mine , it's straight out of Ramayan, and in most probabilities would be my next subject when I will have the time to hold brush ...

Sensitive Words!

 ... it's the special time of the year for all those who celebrate....So here's Wishing each one of you who celebrates 'A Very Happy THANKS GIVING"!!... ....and while you celebrate ...here's what I brought for you :) ..Some Turkey ( I am talking country guys!! ;) and of course it's the weekly quota of good thoughts that some time change the world..Hope you enjoy and incorporate :)..

Make an appointment with yourself

We ought regularly to withdraw from the round of routine and renew ourselves ….set aside the time for this renewal,this examination of the self that we can meet only in
contemplation. A firm and specific date with one’s innerself is the
only way to establish the practice of daily meditation.

One must choose the time and place and keep the date with the same fidelity as one would a date with a friend….. remembering that
the self is one’s best friend and ought to be treated as such..

The benefits are enormous and the pleasure so great that one would not exchange these sessions for any number of idle hours.
….. Louis Finkelstein

And some quotes to ponder :)
1. If you want to be happy --Be.  .....Osho
2.A man with white streaks in his hair looks distinguished.A woman with white streaks looks extinguished.
3.Nature has given women so much power that law has very wisely given them little.....Samuel Johnson
4.All that we are is the result of what we have thought

Sensitive Words !

Fall is finally on my window...and it's beautiful ..this year I just couldn't capture it , All my plans for a fall drive were made and got cancelled last minute,  ...but then so what.....Fall is on my window and it's  beautiful :) ....In the same mood , Here's presenting you a beautiful poem by my Grand Pa, It was originally written in Hindi , he has now translated it into English for the our readers world wide...

I   hold   the   Infinite….
                           I hold the Infinite
                     In all His forms,
                             Within the small circle
                     Of my slender arms;

                             The wide Sky
                      Smiles thru my French window;
                              The wild Wind,
                      I breathe it in, as it slips out to go;
                             The raging Fire
                     Warms my hearth with a bright glow;
                              The infinite Water
                     Fights shyof my decanter in tow;

                              The infinite Time
                      Which turns days into years,
                               Audibly ticks every second
                       In the clock above my dresser

                   ( The Sky,Wind,Fire,Water and Time are regarded as
                      infinite Gods in Indian scriptures )
                                                                    ...... Atul Kumar Jain

My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky;
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die !
The Child is father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.

....William Wordsworth

Ah, fill that cup; what
boots it to repeat?
How time is slipping
underneath the feet ;
Unborn tomorrow
and dead yesterday,
Why fret about them
If today be sweet?...... Omar Khayyam

Lead me from the unreal
to the real …
Lead me from darkness
to light ….
Lead me from death
to immortality….

The Third Eye

If I show you this side of my hand,you can not see the other
side of it . This is so about every thing . All information through
the five senses comes to us in bits and pieces.
This is why Lord Shiva has been represented as the One with
the “Third Eye”. It is not about the fore-head opening up.It is about
seeing beyond the sensory eyes--- the ability to see has transcended
the limitations of sense perceptions……. Sadhguru

 To a skylark
Hail to the, blithe spirit! Bird thou never wert.
That from heaven or near it
Pourest thy full heart
In profuse strains of unpremeditated art,

Higher still and higher
From the earth thou springest,
Like a cloud of fire;
The blue deep thou wingest,
and singing still dost soar and soaring ever singest
…Percy Bysshe Shelly

The complete Man
A divided man is miserable—materialist or spiritualist, moral or
immoral, sinner or saint .He becomes a battleground with a
continuing civil war. A real human being accepts his totality.
The new man will be earthy and divine, worldly and other-worldly. He
will have to accept his totality without inner division. His God will
not be opposed to the Devil, morality not opposed to immorality.
He will transcend duality. My concept of the new man is that he will
be Zobra, the sensuous Greek and Buddha, the spiritual. He will be
Christ and Epicurus together.
….. OSHO

Here are some of the paintings and work of art in my Grandpa's Home , read the descriptions in his own words beneath each one of them ...

.A group of manipuri dance performers with a drummer--- hand painted on silk by an unknown Bengal artist

Some broken marble pieces assembled by me to represent a hilly range with Ganpati Ganesh installed at the top and Bhagwan Buddha meditating below with his aura around.

Another Madhubani painting by unknown artist depicting Lord Vishnu in Matsya and Kachap Avatar.

Sensitive Words!

Oh! that inborn sense of wonder and awe....
A child’s world is fresh and new and beautiful, full of wonder and excitement. For most of us that clear eyed vision is dimmed or lost before we reach adulthood. Oh! If only we could have that sense of wonder last us throughout our lifetime!!
To keep alive that inborn sense of wonder, it is not half so important to know as to feel. Once the emotions have been aroused—a sense of the beautiful, the excitement of the unknown, a feeling of sympathy or admiration—then the fading vision would be revived.
Where ever you are ,you can still look up at the sky—at the dawn and twilight beauties,the moving clouds ,its stars by night.You can listen to the wind, feel the rain on your face.
Senses other than sight can prove avenues of delight and discovery. Savour the smell of low tide combined of many odours of sea weeds and fish. Hearing requires more conscious cultivation. Try to hear the bell like phrases of a wood thrush singing in your backyard every spring. Listen to the voices of the earth—the majestic voice of the thunder, the rain,the sound of surf.
What is the value of this sense of wonder? Is it just to pass the time? I am sure there is something lasting , much deeper and significant. Those who dwell among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of it. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature—the assurance that dawn comes after night and spring after winter
….. Rachel Carson

Thoughts for the Week:
1. I disapprove of what you say but I will defend to death your right to say it…..Voltaire
2. Focus on the journey,not the destination.Joy is found not infinishing an activity but in doing it……Greg Anderson
3. The creative person is willing to live with ambiguity.He does not need problems solved immediately and can afford to wait for the right idea…….Abe Tannenbaum
4. For peace of mind resign as general manager of the universe……Larry Eisenberg
